Terry grew up in Salisbury, MD and swam for Mid-Delmarva Family YMCA team from the age of 10 through high school. He began coaching for his home team while attending college and gained experience leading swimmers at all levels from novice athletes to national contenders. He joined SwimMAC (then Mecklenburg Aquatic Club) in 2001 and coached in both the south and north regions while being mentored by Pat Hogan and Kathy McKee. In 2006, Terry took a position with First Colony Swim Team (FCST) in Texas, where he quickly became a co-head coach with Alison Beebe. Together, they succeeded in doubling the size of the team and breaking into the top 3 at the Texas Age Group Championships, eventually winning it in 2009. Terry is an ASCA Level 4-certified coach and has been selected to the staff of the USA Southern Zone Select Camp as well as North Carolina Zone Teams. He has also been a featured speaker at coaching clinics and in USA Swimming webinars.

During his career, Terry has grown to appreciate what hard work, dedication and teamwork means. He believes in having swimmers understand the fundamental skills of swimming to achieve success; to embrace the belief that swimming fast is a by-product of swimming smart and great foundational skills. Coach Terry is a proud dad of two children, Olivia and Boone, and loves Charlotte.

Terry says the best thing about being a SwimMAC coach is that: "We are allowed to influence young student-athletes in and out of the water.  We pursue the excellence of swimming but we are in an environment that cares just as much about providing the best culture we can to have SwimMAC swimmers develop into awesome adults."
