Anderson grew up in Newport, Rhode Island where he swam competitively from ages 7-18 for the Newport County Wahoos.  As a 14-year-old high school athlete, he was mentioned in the book of Who’s Who in American High School Sports for swimming and achieved many state awards and regional accolades.  In college, Anderson pursued his other passion, studying music and sound recording while performing in New York, Boston, and New Haven, CT.

Anderson returned to his hometown after college and took a position with his high school alma mater. In his 4 years with the high school team, participation doubled and the team rose to a top 10 state ranking in 2012.  Anderson also coached with his former club team, the Newport Wahoos, and a masters group at a private health club. There, he coached long distance open water swimmers in 5k, 6k, 8k, and 10k races for New England Masters, put together clinics for adult swimmers and coached competitive masters swimmers, one of which claimed an American record and National Champion title in the breaststroke.

In addition to coaching, Anderson loves music and making music. From 2007-2012, he was a backstage manager for the Newport Folk Festival and Jazz Festivals and worked with many famous musicians such as Aretha Franklin, Herbie Hanckock, The Avett Brothers, Jim James, Jimmy Buffett and more. He previously owned a recording studio, and still has the equipment in storage in Rhode Island.

"Most of my family is up in the northeast," said Anderson, "But I do have extended family who live in the Charlotte area who I see often.  When not on the pool deck, I am exploring the city or some hiking trail or eating great food. The best thing about being a SwimMAC coach is there is never a comfort zone.  I am always learning something new about leadership."
